CASIA: Institute of Automation, Chinese Academy of Sciences

The Institute of Automation of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CASIA) was founded in October 1956, which was the earliest governmental research organization in the field of automation. Presently, CASIA has 508 staff members, including one CAS Fellow, as well as 210 professors, associate professors and senior engineers. Besides, CASIA has 356 PhD candidates, 264 master students, and 42 post-doctors.

Inria: The French National Institute for Research in Computer Science and Control

Inria, the French national institute for research in informatics and mathematics, operating under the joint authority of the Ministries of Research and of Industry, is dedicated to fundamental and applied research in information and communication science and technology. Inria's missions are to produce outstanding research in the computing and mathematical fields of digital sciences, and to ensure the impact of this research on the economy and society.

Headquartered in the Paris area and strategically located in eight Research Centers in France, Inria has a workforce of 4 400, 3 400 of whom are scientists from Inria or from Inria's partner organisations such as CNRS (the French National Center for Scientific Research), universities and leading engineering schools. They work in about 200 research teams. Many team members are also professors who supervise around 1 250 doctoral students, whose work contributes also to Inria research projects.

The Institute, which is allocated an annual budget of 265 million Euros (in 2012), provides itself with 23% of these resources from its own research contracts and development products.

CWI: Centrum Wiskunde & Informatica

CWI, the national research institute for mathematics and computer science in the Netherlands, was founded in 1946 and is located at Science Park Amsterdam. Research of CWI is applied for instance in payment systems, cryptography, telecommunications, public transport, smart energy networks and meteorology. With 55 permanent research staff, 40 postdocs and 70 PhD students, CWI is a compact institute that lies at the heart of European research in mathematics and computer science.

To facilitate the participation of new Chinese and European research institutions, universities and companies active in R&D in the LIAMA activities, LIAMA is managed by a Consortium of partners which was established in October 2008.

Its main objectives are maintained, with the development of joint research projects, training, transfer to industry and the promotion of open source software.

The multidisciplinary fields will continue to be a priority in the laboratory at the heart of the priorities of both regions (Europe and Asia).

There are two types of membership: Founding Members and Associated Members in LIAMA Consortium. LIAMA  welcomes industrial partners to join in the scientific collaborations of its projects.
